“Springboarding Patterns: From Historic Cairo to Contemporary Design”
Join Ehsan Abushadi ’15, Patterns of Cairo Coordinator, and Yumna Moussa ’19 & ’25, Lead Researcher, in a conversation moderated by Dr. Noha Abou-Khatwa, Assistant Professor of Islamic Art & Architecture.
This talk explores how historic pattern ideation and craft practices can serve as creative springboards for contemporary design fields. It also highlights the Patterns of Cairo online database—an open-access platform documenting over 200 decorative designs from Historic Cairo, featuring digitized drawings, geometric analyses, and rich narratives on craft, migration, and development.
