Infinite Comics on the City – Ahmad Borham
We cordially invite you to visit the “Between Two Cities exhibition” in Megawra al-Khalifa from 18-28 February. The exhibition is curated by Ahmad Borham in collaboration with Mazg. This is a new experiment on many levels. On the narrative level, the visual stories go on in a parallel yet intersecting manner similar to our everyday life in the city. The stories are represented as a spatial installation which gives the spectator more space to indulge into the stories.
The exhibition is based on the master thesis by Ahmad Borham which engages with concepts such as resilience, adaptation and self-organization in the traditional city. The stories in this exhibition attempt to reflect on these concepts in a visionary manner inspired by how much the city dwellers can change how it looks through their day to day interactions. The different scenarios were developed in collaboration with the participants during a workshop that lasted one month and a collective tour in the city.
The participants are a group of artists from different backgrounds ranging from comics artists to architects who are engaging with visual narratives for the first time.

Exhibition organised by:
Ahmad Borham is an independent urban researcher, practicing design architect and teacher in the Arab Academy for Science and Technology and the American University in Cairo. He holds a Masters of Science with a thesis that is titled Resilient Rules: Culture and Computation in Traditional Built Environments. He is a co-founder of Cairo from Below and Madd initiatives which share the aim to encourage inclusive urbanization in Cairo. He is also affiliated with a number of urban initiatives such as Megawra and Tadamun. He also maintains the Drawing Parallels blog where he draws comparisons between urban conditions in Cairo and other cities in search for emergent patterns. The exhibition will be opened on February 18 at 7 pm in Megawra al-Khalifa and remains open until February 28.

ندعوكم لحضور "معرض بين مدينتين" في مجاورة الخليفة في الفترة من 18-28 فبراير من تنظيم أحمد برهام بمشاركة مزج لإنتاج الكوميكس. المعرض تجربة جديدة على مستوى السرد القصصي فيما يسمى infinite Canvas Comics والذي يعتمد على قصص مصورة تتوازى وتتشابك مع بعضها البعض بطريقة تحاكي حياتنا اليومية في المدينة. كما ان المعرض يقدم ذلك السرد في صورة تركيب فراغي يتيح للزائر التفاعل بشكل اكبر مع القصص المصورة.
يعتمد المعرض على رسالة الماجيستير التي يناقش فيها أحمد برهام مفاهيم مثل المرونة والتأقلم والتنظيم الذاتي في المدينة القديمة. تحاول القصص في المعرض التعرض لتلك المفاهيم بأسلوب خيالي مستوحى من المواقف التي نعيشها يومياً مبينة مدى قدرتنا من خلال تلك المواقف تغيير شكل المدينة التي نسكنها. تم تطوير سيناريوهات القصص بالتعاون مع الرسامين خلال ورشة عمل استمرت على مدار شهر ومن وحي جولة في المدينة قام بها فريق العمل.
يشارك في المعرض مجموعة متنوعة من الفنانين من خلفيات مختلفة سواء ممارسين للكوميكس أو معماريين تعد هذه اول تجربة لهم في انتاج القصص مصورة.

مصمم ومنظم المعرض:
أحمد برهام مصمم معماري ممارس وباحث عمراني مستقل مهتم ببحث عوامل المرونة في البيئات العمرانية التقليدية وكيفية الاستفادة منها في زيادة قدرة البيئة العمرانية المعاصرة على التكيف مع التغيرات والتحولات المستمرة. كما يعمل بالتدريس في عدد من الجامعات المصرية. حاصل على الماجيستير بعنوان الأحكام المرنة: عن الثقافة والتعقد في البيئات العمرانية التقليدية. هو عضو مؤسس في مبادرتي القاهرة من الأساس Cairo from Below ومدّ madd واللتان تعملان على تشجيع أساليب العمران ذات الطبيعة المرنة بطرق تشاركية شفافة من خلال أنشطة متعددة على الأرض. كما أن له مدونة بعنوان Drawing Parallels يدون فيها عن الأنماط المشتركة بين أحوال مصر العمرانية وغيرها من المدن.

سوف يتم افتتاح المعرض يوم 18 فبراير الساعة السابعة مساءً ويظل مقاماً حتى ال28 من فبراير.
