If you’re looking for a unique interactive activity for your children before the end of the summer vacation, sign up for al-Khalifa Mini Camp!
The camp focuses on learning through experiencing life in one of the oldest neighborhoods of Historic Cairo. Each day will begin with a tour of a historic site or a walk in the streets of al-Khalifa area. Followed by artistic and scientific applications, as well as group games to develop exploration skills, teamwork, artistic and craft abilities, and various personal skills! The camp is suitable for children aged 9 to 13 years old. Don’t miss this opportunity and register now, as the number of spots is limited to ensure a unique experience for our young participants.

Camp schedule:

Al-Khalifa Mini Camp Program is a fast-paced and rich program that covers a variety of topics ranging from arts and crafts, astronomy, geography, environment, mythology, architecture and construction. All of this, in just 5 days, amounting to a total of 25 hours of training, playing and interacting with the rich heritage of al-Khalifa!

Day One – Tulun’s Secrets:
Art and crafts day

A tour of Ahmed Ibn Tulun Mosque, and a treasure hunt unveiling the history, architecture and tales of the mosque. Followed by pattern drawing and stucco sculpture workshops.

Day Two – Around the World:
Astronomy and geography day

A tour of Bayt al-Kritliyya to learn about its distinctive architecture and myths, followed by the Bayt al-Kritliyya-themed game, “Around the World”. Participants will connect with the story of Gayer Anderson and his love for collecting valuable items from all over the world. The tour will be followed by astronomy-based activities to learn about ancient time measuring devices.

Day Three – Al-Khalifa Park:
A day surrounded by the natural environment

A tour in al-Khalifa Park to learn about the story of the city floating on water, and how the solution lies at the heart of the issue! The day will be full of agricultural activities, scientific experiments to purify water, and a special printing activity using leaves from the park.

Day Four – Al-Khalifa Treasures:
A day of legends and tales

A treasure hunt in al-Khalifa Street to discover distinctive architectural elements in al-Khalifa neighborhood, its tales and legends.
After the tour, participants will unleash their imagination as they collaborate to create a mural depicting everything they have learned about the area and what makes it special in their eyes. They will also have the opportunity to learn about khiyamiyya, one of the most important traditional crafts in Historic Cairo, and create their own khiyamiyya pieces inspired by their experience!

Day Five – Brick by Brick:
Architecture and Construction Day

A tour through the streets of al-Khalifa among its most prominent monuments, to learn about the architecture of its buildings, and what distinguishes the architecture of each era from the other.
Followed by a workshop on traditional building methods, in which the participants will learn about the difference between traditional and modern construction. They will also have the opportunity to use clay to build some structural elements found in Islamic architecture.

Sunday, August 27 until Thursday, August 31, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm

Workshops venue:
All activities will be organized inside one of the distinguished architectural heritage buildings in al-Khalifa, 17 al-Khalifa Street, al-Khalifa, Cairo.

Registration fees:
Early bird: 2250 for individuals – 2000 for groups
After 17th of August: 2500 for individuals – 2250 for groups

The camp does not include daily meals. Kids are encouraged to bring their own lunchbox and enjoy it during the lunch break.
