An Architecture for Autism
It is estimated that 1 in 68 individuals worldwide fall within the spectrum of autism. Despite this incredible prevalence there is little, if any research to date which investigates the role of the built environment in autistic individual’s everyday lives, nor how to build for their diverse and challenging needs in a respectful and conducive way. This lecture presents the award-winning Autism ASPECTS Stm Index, the first evidence-based set of architectural guidelines for autism worldwide. This work has been called “grassroots autism design research needed to inch the profession forward” and Magda Mostafa has been labelled “one of the world’s pre-eminent researchers in autism design” by international architectural media”.
