Come, see, hear and discuss the outcomes of ‘Design Futures HotHouse 4’. Designers and researchers from Australia and Egypt are working intensively (“hothousing”) over four days to develop project concepts for economic, social and environmental sustainability in three different settings: Old Cairo, New Cairo and Sharqiya.

This follows successful HotHouses in Brisbane (2011), Paris (2012) and Thessaloniki (2013). Initiated by Professor Tony Fry of Design Futures program at Griffith University, Australia, these intensive design events are about bringing advanced design thinking to specific locations with the possibility of stimulating ongoing projects. This goes towards the creation of sustainable futures, using approaches that are well beyond “check-list and techno-fix” versions of sustainability. The focus is on designing processes of desired change, and identifying what needs to be learnt in order to facilitate this.
