The Fatimid Cemetery of Aswan, Historic Gem and a Living Heritage
One of the most interesting ancient Islamic sites of Egypt thanks to its historical importance and the significance of its architecture. The Fatimid necropolis is located in the southern part of the modern town of Aswan.
Because the cemetery is still in use today, it provides us with a unique cultural, ritual and historical landscape. Besides visiting their deceased relatives and praying for several other rituals on a regular basis.
Since 2006, a team of experts from the German Archaeological Institute Cairo and the Technical University of Berlin, funded by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, document and preserve the tombs at this site in close collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities.
This lecture will discuss the historical and cultural importance of the Fatimid cemetery, a brief summary of the site management and restoration done at the site (2006-2014) and as well present some of the Arabic graffiti texts documented at the tombs of the necropolis.
Lecturer: Fatma Keshk
She is an Egyptologist and Field Archaeologist working on several archaeological sites in Egypt since 2008 in Aswan, South Sinai and Western Delta. She is the former head for the Archaeology and Architecture Department at CULTNAT (2014-2016). In 2011, she obtained her Master Degree in Archaeology from Leiden University in the Netherlands and currently working on her PhD research in Egyptian Archaeology at the Free University of Berlin. Since February 2014, she joined the work of the joint project of the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo and the Technical University of Berlin at the Fatimid Cemetery of Aswan as main responsible for the documentation of the Arabic graffiti texts.
الجبانة الفاطمية بأسوان: كنز تاريخي وتراث حي
أحد أهم الأثار الإسلامية في مصر نظرا لأهميتها التاريخية والمعمارية. تقع الجبانة الفاطمية في جنوبي مدينة أسوان ولأن الجبانة لازالت مستخدمة للدفن حتى اليوم فإنها تتيح لنا نموذج ثقافي وتاريخي وطقسي فريد من نوعه. فإلى جانب الزيارات الدورية للأقارب المتوفين بالجبانة فهناك طقوس أخرى تنم بالجبانة بصفة دورية.
منذ عام 2006 تقوم بعثة مشتركة من المعهد الألماني للأثار بالقاهرة وجامعة برلين التقنية بتمويل نت وزارة الخارجية الألمانية بتوثيق وترميم المقابر الأثرية بالجبانة وذلك من خلال تعاون وثيق مع وزارة الأثار المصرية.
تناقش هذه المحاضرة الأهمية التاريخية والثقافية للجبانة الفاطمية كما تقدم عرض عن مشروع الترميم وإدارة الموقع (2006-2014) وأيضا توثيق نصوص الجرافيتي العربية.

متخصصة في علم المصريات وأثرية عملت بالعديد من المواقع الأثرية منذ 2008 في أسوان وجنوب سيناء وغرب الدلتا. هي رئيس قسم الأثار والعمارة بمركز توثيق التراث الحضاري والطبيعي سابقا (2014-2016). في 2011 حصلت على درجة الماجستير في الأثار من جامعة لايدن بهولندا وتعمل حاليا على رسالة الدكتوراة في الأثار المصرية بجامعة برلين الحرة. منذ فبراير 2014 انضمت لأعمال المشروع المشترك بين المعهد الألماني للأار بالقاهرة وجامعة برلين التقنية بالجبانة الفاطمية في أسوان لإدارة توثيق نصوص الجرافيتي العربية بالمشاهد الأثرية.
