How Architects Communicate

We communicate to survive. Without communication skills, we’re at a disadvantage at both our social and professional lives. We learn these skills from our parents, and later from teachers, friends, and colleagues. Filling gaps in our knowledge about communication becomes a lifelong journey.

This workshop discusses communication management issues with respect to the full engineering project cycle, integrating the initial phases of the project where architects are most involved with the tangible phases that are usually handed over to civil engineers.

This is a hands-on workshop that promotes self assessment for insight into individual behavior throughout the different eight project phases, challenging participants with the perspectives of construction engineers and end users. The workshop is conducted with the aid of simulation activities to help transfer learned skills and behavior to the working world

Participants will:

• Understand the eight different phases of a project

• Understand the project as a cohesive entity

• Understand one’s strengths and weaknesses within each project phase

• Understand the impact of one’s behavior on others

• Improve interpersonal effectiveness

Mona Sennara received a BSc in Civil Engineering from Ain Shams University, Egypt in 1991, and an MSc in Project Management from the University of Calgary in 2002. She is a Project Management Professional (PMP) in the Project Management Institute (PMI). Her areas of expertise are in the area of construction engineering on risk management on international projects and the impact of cultural risks through out a project’s lifecycle.
