How can Patterns of Cairo be a resource for the applied arts?

Starting with a walkthrough of the Patterns of Cairo website (www.patternsofcairo.com), this lecture explored how the different content available on the platform can be used in the applied arts. From seeking inspiration, to developing a design concept, downloadable vector drawings, and historical information, it is a complete resource that designers can turn to. The talk concluded with a showcase and discussion of the designs produced by the 2024 international exchange workshop and the prototyping efforts that went into materialising these designs which showcase the versatility of the Patterns of Cairo content for contemporary design.
