Megawra season opening

Sketching Cairo: Heliopolis, Khalifa and Downtown
Exhibition and lecture: Cairo Urban Sketchers with Cluster, Heliopolis Heritage and Athar Lina.

In 2016, Cairo Urban Sketchers collaborated with three initiatives in Cairo to represent and rethink three of Cairo’s neighbourhoods through the art of sketching.

A sketching competition focusing on the architectural heritage of Heliopolis with Heliopolis Heritage Initiative (https://www.facebook.com/events/1052876694810546).

A workshop with the residents of Darb al-Husr in al-Khalifa to express their dreams for the street – in collaboration with Athar Lina Initiative on the occasion of the rehabilitation of a dumping ground into a sports area in collaboration with Cairo Governorate (https://www.facebook.com/events/1164904060227961/).

A sketching workshop of Cairo’s passageways within CLUSTER’s ongoing project to study the passageways and improve them.

The 4 initiatives come together to show the result of their work and discuss it through a group lecture and month long exhibition in Megawra al-Khalifa.
This event is the both the opening lecture for Megawra’s 2016-17 season, and the closing event of Nas wa Turath, a weekend celebrating Egypt’s heritage organised under the auspices of the Ministry or Antiquities by 9 initiatives in 5 Egyptian Cities (https://www.facebook.com/events/566456056895746/) Nas wa Turath also marks the launch of Activities of the Egypt Heritage Network.:https://www.facebook.com/EgyptHeritageNetwork/]).

Megawra partners in this Network through its initiative Athar Lina. The activities are the fourth iteration of its annual event, Spend the Day in Khalifa
