Narratives of the Self and Other: Bein al-Sarayat and its surrounding spaces

The research project “Narratives of the Self and Other: Bein al-Sarayat and its surrounding spaces” focuses on the way the residents of Bein al-Sarsyat narrate their group and memory of place, and negotiate surrounding spaces of social, economic and security ordering.

Oral Narrative and History methodology is presented by:
Diana Abdel Fattah: is a research assistant in The Women and Memory Forum. Diana is a graduate of the English department at Cairo University, and she joined Women and Memory in 2012. Currently, she is the project coordinator for the oral history program

Spatial Narrative methodology is presented by:
Ahmad Borham: is a practicing design architect. He is also involved in the education field in a number of universities in Cairo. He has a Masters of Science in environmental design titled Resilient Rules: Culture and Computation in Traditional Built Environments. He is co-founder of Cairo from Below and madd platform initiatives which share the same aim which is to encourage inclusive, transparent and resilient urbanization in Cairo and to provide information and opinion to bring together, empower and inspire the next generation of urban practitioners and leaders. He also maintains the Drawing Parallels blog where he draws comparisons between urban conditions in Cairo and other cities in search for emergent patterns.

Abdul Rahman Al-Taliawi: is a Cairo-based practicing architect. He acquired his bachelor degree in Architecture from the school of Fine Arts in 2007 before embarking on a professional career in Sinai, New York and Milan. He acquired his master of science in 2013 from Politecnico di Milano on the topic of Urban Voids as Infrastructural Architecture. Since then, he has worked as an architect, teaching assistant and independent researcher on several professional and academic projects. His research interests include literary space and the architecture of the text.

Application of the Oral Narrative Methodology in the research is presented by:
Abeer Rabei: Assistant Lecturer at the Political Science Department in Cairo University. She earned her M.A degree from the American University in Cairo (AUC) in the topic ‘ Aid Harmonization: U.K and Denmark Aid Policies toward Ghana and Tanzania: (2005-2010)’. Currently, she is PhD candidate in Cairo University. Her teaching courses and academic studies are on African context through political economy approach. Additionally, she got experience in international development organizations such as UN-Habitat, UNDP and Care organization. She participates in civil society initiatives and cofounder of youth initiative “African Pathways” that aims to re-strengthen African
social /youth relations in Cairo.
