Sidewalks, starting a dialogue about pedestrian in Cairo

Under the calls of sustainability and due to the international crisis of fuel reduction and high rates of pedestrian crashes, and in parallel with human-rights-organizations efforts for supporting social justice and right to city, the talk about pedestrians became an urgent need to many urban communities, therefore, the Egyptian one.
In our interactive lecture, we try to open a serious discussion to explore the pedestrian community in Egypt. We try also to explore a currently running research concerning sidewalks and pedestrian movement at a commercial street in Cairo.

*Lecturer: Hussam Magdy, 35 years, a researcher in Egyptian urban design concerns , and a lecturer assistant at The Faculty of Fine Arts, Minia University. Since he has graduated in 2003, he has cared about investigating many cases concerning the Egyptian urbanism, such as: public space definition, the informal practices over urban spaces, and the non-motorized mobility in the Egyptian city. Currently , he works on his PhD research studying pedestrian movement at sidewalks in Cairo City using the digital simulation as he joins Nagoya institute of Technology , Japan as a research student till March 2017.
