Tahayyuz Alliance is inviting you for a public lecture hosted by Professors Adam Nocek and Stacey Moran to discuss their work in critical design studies as an extension of the research they pursue at the Center for Philosophical Technologies at Arizona State University. They will discuss how their relation to design is generally filtered through philosophy and the humanities, and how this has given them the unique ability to frame design as -having the potential to be- a distinctly political and ethical practice. They will also review their “problem design” work and how it provides an important opportunity to collaborate with Megawra and the Tahayyuz Alliance.

Tahayyuz is an alliance formed between Megawra, 10 Tooba, and Mansour Office, which is supported by The Cultural Alliances Component and is implemented by Culture Resource and co-funded by the European Union.

Adam Nocek is an Associate Professor in the Philosophy of Technology and Science and Technology Studies in the School of Arts, Media, and Engineering at Arizona State University. He is also the Founding Director of ASU’s Center for Philosophical Technologies. Nocek has published widely on the philosophy of media and science; speculative philosophy (especially Whitehead); design philosophy, history, and practice; and critical and speculative theories of computational media.

Stacey Moran is an Assistant Professor in the School of Arts, Media and Engineering and the Department of English at Arizona State University. Her work lies at the intersections of feminist theory and technoscience, design studies, and critical pedagogy. Her current research investigates how methods in the physical sciences provide a foothold for thinking about the materiality of knowledge production.
