Temporary Spaces – Architecture of Forced Displacement

Although architecture is normally characterized by permanence and connection to the context, however, temporary architecture is another form of architecture that is resorted to in cases of travelling in search for natural resources, escaping from natural disasters, or running away form wars. This brings up some issues related to temporary architecture under question such as: what does temporary architecture has to offer to displaced families? To what extent could architects contribute to enhance the performance of temporary architecture? How could architects develop temporary shelters that tackles issues of safety, limited budget, flexibility, easy storage,easy mantling, protection from harsh and often contradicting environmental conditions while fulfilling the needs of its users?

The team of the “Design approaches and methodologies” course- Cairo University- is honored to invite you to share our discourse around issues of ” temporary shelters”,where”lateral thinking techniques” were adopted to propose solutions for those issues mentioned above.
